Marineland of Florida is located 20 minutes south of St. Augustine on the beach between the Matanzas River and the Atlantic Ocean. The park is situated within more than 55,000 acres of tidal creeks and rivers, maritime forests and salt marshes under permanent protection. Opened in 1938, the seven-acre beach-front park today contains two large Oceanariums, a presentation stadium, and several other smaller exhibits. It is home to flamingoes, dolphins, sharks, sea turtles, stingrays and a magnificent variety of ocean life, much of it native to the local area. Marineland's proximity to the ocean allows the park to use a one-of-a-kind life support system that feeds sea water directly into the habitats, creating an environment that most closely resembles the ocean itself.
